Frequently Asked Questions
The Angelus is a traditional Catholic prayer honoring the Incarnation of Christ. It commemorates the announcement by the Angel Gabriel to Mary that she would conceive and become the Mother of Jesus.
The traditional times are:
- 6:00 AM - Morning
- 12:00 PM - Noon
- 6:00 PM - Evening
These times follow the ancient monastic tradition of marking the hours of prayer throughout the day.
During the Easter season (from Easter Sunday through Pentecost), the Regina Caeli replaces the Angelus as the traditional prayer.

Some versions of Chrome may block audio from playing automatically. If the tab opens but you don't hear the bell, try the following:
- Look for a speaker icon in the address bar and click it to allow sound.
- Go to
chrome://settings/content/soundand make sure "Sites can play sound" is turned on. - If needed, add your extension to the Allow list using:
chrome-extension://<your-extension-id>
Once allowed, the bell should ring automatically each time the tab opens.
Yes. In the extension popup, you can select "No Sound" under bell tone options. The Angelus prayers will still appear at the scheduled times if you've enabled that setting.
Run this code in your Chrome Dev Console to simulate the Angelus tab opening:
chrome.tabs.create({ url: 'bell.html', active: true });
If the bell or tab isn't triggering, double-check that the extension has the necessary permissions. In Chrome, go to chrome://extensions, find "Angelus Bell," and make sure it's enabled and allowed to run in the background.
The extension uses your computer's system clock to determine when to trigger the Angelus. Make sure your system time and time zone are accurate for consistent behavior.
Some privacy or tab management extensions may block the new tab or sound playback. If you're experiencing issues, try temporarily disabling other extensions to identify the conflict.
